Overview

Moringa is a Broadleaf tree card with both roles: native to South Asia and invasive across Africa, East Asia, both halves of North America, Oceania and South America. Six invasive regions is a wide spread, and it shows directly in the attacker numbers. See nativity and categories.

Moves

The starter attack, Limb Lash, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun, reading 34 native and 46 invasive. Two lashes from a heavy limb. Note how far the invasive figure runs ahead of the native one β€” that gap is the introduced-range term doing its work.

The free once-per-battle ability, Old-Growth Reaction, unlocks at level 25 and costs no Sun. Centuries of shade β€” the foe stalls and withers.

The advanced attack, Buttress Bash, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun, reading 32 native and 37 invasive. Swings a buttress root and pins the foe. It hits for slightly less than the starter at three times the cost, so the starter stays the efficient attack. See moves.

Abilities

Tannin Load arrives on the first riser at level 10 at full strength: when this card is struck, the attacker takes Wither and loses attack power for the rest of the fight.

Mycorrhiza stacks on at level 68, healing a benched ally each checkup. It triggers roughly 60% of the time rather than every checkup, so read it as a trend across a long fight.

Features

The species record lists no toxicity and no trait keywords, so no poison rider applies. For field gear, the armour reading is modest for a tree, so protective gear is more useful here than on its heavier relatives. Its growth habit is not vine, epiphyte or hemiepiphyte, so a Moss Pole does not apply.

Stats

At level 40 native reads 103 HP and 16 ATK; invasive reads 89 HP and 31 ATK β€” a very large step. Armour is 13, low for a tree. Retreat is 16 Sun. Opening tempo is 51, near the top of the range, with sustained tempo at 34 β€” a fast tree, which is unusual. Invasive it pays Faustian bench damage per damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes on knockout. See stats.

At Level 100

By level 100 native reaches 190 HP and 28 ATK, invasive 165 HP and 65 ATK, with armour at 26. Armour does climb with wood density, but it starts from a lower base than most trees, so the matured card is sturdy rather than a true wall. Retreat rises to 33 Sun and the inverted tempo sinks to its floor, so the speed advantage does not survive to the cap.

Weaknesses & Resistances

Broadleaf tree is Competitor: strong into Ruderal β€” annual forbs, grasses, aquatics and bulbs β€” and weak to Specialist, meaning succulents, conifers, ferns and epiphytes. See weaknesses and resistances.

Gameplay uses

Played invasive this is a strong aggressive card: high opening tempo, a big attack step, and a cheap starter attack that carries the damage. It frequently gets the first hit in and hits hard when it does.

The trade is durability. Its armour is well below the usual tree standard, so it does not absorb like one, and the Faustian bench cost adds up across a long fight. Play it as a fast threat, not as a wall. Native it is much flatter β€” the attack stat drops sharply and it becomes an ordinary support tree.

It is edible with a fruit economy group, so a phosphorus soil amendment pays it Γ—1.25 coins. See the battle lab.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
