Mitchella repens
A low creeping native vine that wilts the enemy active, plays only the native role, and earns coins from its edible fruit.
Partridgeberry is a low, creeping Vine that fights as a modest attrition support. It is native to eastern and western North America and South America, and has no invasive form, so the arena only ever fields it as a native buffer for your bench (see nativity). It is a middling card whose wilt aura and steady economy are its main draws.
Its starter attack, Creeping Smother, unlocks at level 1 and costs 2 Sun, dealing about 27 damage β a plain hit. The free once-per-battle ability, Liana Loop, arrives at level 25: Loops around the foe β Bind and Wither. The advanced attack, Smother, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (40 damage) and saps the target, withering it as it strikes. Most of your copies sit below level 40, where only the starter is available. None of its moves carry an initiative rider, so it never seizes a turn.
It keeps one always-on trait: Allelopathy. Because it draws a single eligible trait, Allelopathy arrives at half strength on the level 10 riser and matures on the level 68 one. It lays a wilt aura on the enemy active, grinding it down each turn. See Abilities.
It carries no trait keywords and no status chemistry beyond its aura and sap effects, so nothing recoils onto an attacker. It is non-toxic, with no hazard ring. Its growth habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native, defensive field gear suits its slow attrition game.
At level 40 it reads 103 HP with ATK of 25 β moderate damage. DEF is 8, in the vine band, giving it a little armor. Its tempo is a slow start into a faster cruise: turn 1 runs on its lower initiative (32) and later turns on its higher SPD (34), so it is out-paced early but steadier once a fight settles. Retreat costs 16 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active. See Stats.
Matured to level 100, it climbs to 190 HP and 45 ATK, but its DEF only reaches 15 β as a soft vine it gains health and only a little armor, so it stays fairly exposed to a real hitter. Retreat rises to 33 Sun and its tempo has sunk to roughly 1% of cap. Maturing buys bulk and a matured wilt aura, not real protection.
As a vine it is in the Competitor succession group. It hits Ruderal plants for Γ1.5 and is struck for only Γ0.667 by them; it is weak to Specialist plants, which hit it for Γ1.5 while resisting its blows. Other Competitors and the off-wheel Weird group are neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.
Play it as a native bench support whose wilt aura wears the enemy active down while its cushion and overshield protect a stronger hitter. It is a modest card and not a front-line threat. Its value is also economic: it is edible with a resolved part (fruit), so feeding it Phosphorus pays Γ1.25 coins, while any other nutrient banks Γ1.25 XP. It fights as a slow-then-faster skirmisher until about level 21, after which its bulk takes over β keep leveling it.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
