Mangifera indica
A hard-hitting Broadleaf tree card whose starter attack outdamages its advanced one, and which regrows from dormant buds after a knockout.
Mango is a Broadleaf tree card with both roles: native to East Asia and South Asia, invasive across Africa, both halves of North America, Oceania and South America. Native it is a cushioned buffer projecting a bench overshield; invasive it is a heavy attacker. See nativity and categories.
The starter attack, Whomp, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun and reads 37 native and 42 invasive. The full weight of the tree, all at once. That is an unusually strong starter β this card's cheapest attack is also its hardest-hitting one, which is a deliberate exception rather than an oversight.
The free once-per-battle ability, Climax Community, unlocks at level 25 and costs no Sun. The forest as it ends up: heal 70% and +5 ATK.
The advanced attack, Buttress Bash, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun, reading 33 native and 38 invasive. Swings a buttress root and pins the foe. Because the starter hits harder for less Sun, reach for the advanced attack when you want its effect, not when you want damage. See moves.
Tannin Load arrives on the first riser at level 10 at full strength. When this card is struck, the attacker takes Wither and loses attack power for the rest of the fight. It costs nothing to run and it punishes opponents that try to grind through a tree.
Epicormic Buds stacks on at level 68. It is a revival: a 35% chance to survive a knockout, coming back at a substantial fraction of health. Compared with the other revivals in the game this one trades a lower chance for a much stronger comeback β dormant buds under the bark, breaking after fire. When it fires you get a real plant back, not a token one.
The species record lists no toxicity and no trait keywords, so no poison rider applies. For field gear, good armour plus a retaliation trait means gear extending time on the field compounds well. Its growth habit is not vine, epiphyte or hemiepiphyte, so a Moss Pole does not apply. Note the conservation status is data-deficient rather than a clean reading.
At level 40 native reads 103 HP and 19 ATK; invasive reads 89 HP and 33 ATK. Armour is 22, which is high, and retreat is 16 Sun. Opening tempo is 45 β very high for a tree β and sustained tempo is 32. A fast, well-armoured tree is a rare combination. Invasive it pays Faustian bench damage on every damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes on knockout. See stats.
By level 100 native reaches 190 HP and 33 ATK, invasive 165 HP and 69 ATK, with armour at 50. The tree shape holds: armour climbs with wood density instead of flattening, so the matured card is a wall that also hits. Retreat rises to 33 Sun and the inverted tempo has sunk to its floor, so the speed advantage it enjoys at level 40 does not survive to the cap β contrast the tempo pips above.
Broadleaf tree is Competitor: it crowds out Ruderal β annual forbs, grasses, aquatics and bulbs β and loses to Specialist, meaning succulents, conifers, ferns and epiphytes. See weaknesses and resistances.
This is one of the strongest all-round cards in this batch and it is easy to play: lead with the starter attack, because it is both the cheapest and the hardest-hitting thing the card does. High opening tempo means it often lands that hit first, good armour means it survives the reply, and Tannin Load makes the reply weaker.
Invasive it becomes a genuine finisher. The Faustian bench cost is the only brake, so keep fights short or keep the bench healthy. Native it is a strong wall with a real attack, which is more than most buffers offer.
It is edible with a fruit economy group, so a phosphorus soil amendment pays Γ1.25 coins. Strong on the field and strong in the economy. See the battle lab.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
