Malus toringo
A resilient crabapple tree with a big self-heal ability and steady DEF; native buffer or invasive attacker, and an edible-fruit coin-earner.
Toringo crab is a broadleaf tree, a Broadleaf tree card that plays as a tough, self-repairing body. It is native to East Asia, where it is a defensive buffer, and invasive in Europe and both eastern and western North America, where it is an attacker. See nativity.
Leaf Smother unlocks at Lv 1 for 2 Sun β Buries the foe under a canopy's worth of leaf β it weakens. β dealing 25 native / 28 invasive. The free once-per-battle ability Climax Community (Lv 25, no damage) is a large heal-and-buff: The forest as it ends up: heal 70% and +5 ATK. The advanced Root Heave (Lv 40, 6 Sun) reads 20 / 23: Heaves the ground up under the foe β trapped, and sapped. No initiative rider. See Moves.
It keeps two always-on abilities, arriving apart. Buttress Roots arrives at Lv 10 β an always-on anchoring trait that keeps the tree planted and hard to shove. Epicormic Buds stacks on at Lv 68, a regrowth trait that lets an old trunk push new shoots after damage. This crab drew neither canopy headline trait, so it is not a Sun-overshield carrier. For most of its life it runs on Buttress Roots alone.
No toxin or thorn trait, so no contact recoil (in the rose family though it is). Not a climber, so no Moss Pole. For field gear, Calcium/Magnesium suits the native wall; attack support suits the invasive.
At Lv 40, 103 HP native / 89 invasive (native +15% cushion and bench overshield). DEF 26, firm and climbing toward a tree's wall. ATK 19 native versus 28 invasive β a clearer invasive step than most cherries, so it presses harder when invasive. The invasive pays Faustian bench self-damage per hit and concedes 2 prizes on KO. Tempo is balanced here: initiative 34 and SPD 34 sit at the same value, so it is neither a quick starter nor a fast cruiser β a steady mover both turns. Retreat 14 Sun. See Stats.
HP 190 / 165, ATK 34 / 55, DEF hardening to a wall at 60 on wood density. Retreat rises to 29 Sun and its tempo pips fall to roughly 1% of cap β slow but very hard to break. Maturing buys the fortress.
Broadleaf tree is in the Competitor group: strong (Γ1.5) into Ruderals β annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs β and weak (Γ0.667) into Specialists β succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes. Poison ignores its DEF and is the standard answer to its armor.
Native, a durable anchor with a big once-per-battle heal to reset its HP mid-fight. Invasive, a harder-hitting attacker than most trees thanks to the wider ATK gap, backed by the same heal. It is edible with a fruit part, so feeding it Phosphorus (the fruit match) pays Γ1.25 coins; any other fertilizer banks Γ1.25 XP. A strong, forgiving card. Bulk-rich, it is power-favored from a low level and crosses to power-dominance by about Lv 20 as a native (Lv 22 invasive), leaning ever more on armor and HP afterward.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
