Overview

The Swedish service tree is a broadleaf tree β€” a bulk-and-armor card. It is native to Europe, where it plays the native buffer role, and invasive across eastern and western North America, where it becomes an attacker. See nativity.

Moves

The starter, Deathshadow, unlocks at Lv 1 for 2 Sun and deals 25 native / 27 invasive while stopping the foe from healing. The free once-per-battle ability, Shade Tolerance, unlocks at Lv 25: it heals 40% and keeps the foe from healing. The advanced attack, Lignin Lockdown, arrives at Lv 40 for 6 Sun, hitting for 22 native / 24 invasive and leaving the foe stalled and wilting. No move carries the initiative rider. See moves.

Abilities

It keeps two always-on traits. Buttress Roots, from the Lv 10 riser, makes it immune to Bind β€” it can never be trapped and can always retreat. Canopy Gap, from the Lv 68 riser, makes it immune to bench-reaching damage: a splash or spread blow aimed at a neighbour cannot carry onto it. Note that it did not draw the tree line's Mycorrhiza bench-heal, so there is no 60% sustain heal on this card β€” both its traits are steady passives, not chance-based recovery.

Features

It holds no thorns, Toxin or Unpalatable contact-recoil trait. It is not a climber, so no Moss Pole. Being a tree, its armor is already its strength; a Calcium/Magnesium field gear amendment pushes that DEF even higher.

Stats

At Lv 40 it carries 103 HP native / 89 invasive, with ATK of 19 native rising to 24 invasive. DEF is already 24 at this level β€” firm, and climbing hard. The invasive pays Faustian self-damage (10 plus level minus one) to its own bench on each damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes on KO. Opening tempo 44 sits above sustained tempo 33, so it opens quick and then slows as a cruiser. Retreat costs 14 Sun. Benched as a native it projects a green HP overshield bar (a sliver, as a common species). See stats.

At Level 100

This is where a tree pays off: DEF climbs from wood density to 55, a genuine wall, while HP swells to 190 native / 165 invasive and ATK to 33 native / 46 invasive. Retreat rises to 28 Sun and the inverted tempo sinks to its ~1% floor β€” a mature copy is slow but very hard to move. From Lv 52 it regenerates Sun in battle; at Lv 85 the starter is free.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a broadleaf tree it is a Competitor: Γ—1.5 into Ruderal cards, Γ—0.667 into Specialists (who hit it for Γ—1.5), even against other Competitors and the Weird group.

Gameplay uses

This is a solid keeper. As a native it is a durable wall that shrugs off hits and denies healing; as an invasive it adds a real ATK step and the same heal-lock pressure, at the cost of Faustian bench damage and extra prizes on death. It is edible with the fruit as the eaten part, so Phosphorus fertilizer pays Γ—1.25 coins (other nutrients bank Γ—1.25 XP), making it useful for income too. Like most trees it is power-favored from very early β€” its power curve overtakes its tempo curve at about Lv 24 as a native.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
