Overview

Barbacenia purpurea is a low Succulent that fights as a native support piece leaning on its self-heal. It is native to South America and has no invasive card, so the arena only fields it as a native buffer. With almost no armor it is fragile, and its damage is modest β€” it survives on healing, not toughness.

Moves

Its starter attack, Dryground, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun, dealing about 26 damage and pinning the target in place. The free once-per-battle ability, Water Reservoir, arrives at level 25: Opens the whole store: heal 50%, and the foe can't heal. It is a mid-fight mend. The advanced attack, Drought Stand, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (about 29 damage), landing as a flurry of smaller hits. Most of your barbacenia sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.

Abilities

Barbacenia purpurea keeps one always-on trait, Photosynthesis. It arrives at half strength on the level 10 riser and matures on the level 68 riser β€” a real difference for most of the card's life, since it spends the long stretch between the two risers healing at the reduced rate. Even matured it is a sustain trait, so its in-sun mend fires only about 60% of the time and is frequent rather than guaranteed. See Abilities.

Features

Barbacenia purpurea is non-toxic β€” no contact recoil and no poison rider, so nothing punishes an attacker for striking it. Its habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native, defensive field gear β€” a Cloche, or a calcium/magnesium amendment for a little DEF β€” offsets its thin armor. See statuses.

Stats

At level 40 Barbacenia purpurea reads 103 HP with ATK of 15. DEF is just 2, at the soft floor of the succulent band, so it takes hits with almost no armor and relies on its heal instead. Its tempo is back-loaded: turn 1 runs on its initiative (32) and every turn after on its SPD (34), which is higher, so it is out-paced off the mark but a little quicker in a long fight. Retreat costs 16 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, Barbacenia purpurea grows to 190 HP and 25 ATK, but its DEF only reaches 3 β€” as a succulent it buys bulk in health and almost none in armor, so it stays exposed to any real hitter. Retreat rises to 33 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap. Maturing here matters most for finally bringing its heal to full strength.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a succulent, Barbacenia purpurea sits in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants (perennial herbs, shrubs, trees) for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs), which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play Barbacenia purpurea as a fragile native healer: keep it in sun so its self-mend can carry it through exchanges, and lean on the native HP cushion and overshield to make up for its paper armor. Its attack is weak and its body is soft, so it is a collection and support piece more than a threat. On economy, it is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks Γ—1.25 XP toward faster growth rather than coins. It plays as a slow-starting cruiser that leans harder on its bulk as it levels, crossing over around level 25 β€” but it is always stronger at higher levels, so there is no reason to hold it back.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
