Overview

African Milktree is a paper-thin Succulent that fights by outlasting: it heals in sun and grinds through long exchanges rather than trading hard blows. It is native to Africa and invasive in South Asia, so the arena can field it either way β€” as a native buffer or as an invasive attacker. Its armor is almost nonexistent, so it depends on healing to survive.

Moves

Its starter attack, Dryground, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun, dealing about 27 damage as a native and 29 as an invasive β€” a straightforward strike. The free once-per-battle ability, Xeric Climax, arrives at level 25: Master of the drylands: heal 70%. The advanced attack, Prickly Situation, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (30 native / 31 invasive) and mends the plant as it strikes. Most of your African Milktree sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.

Abilities

African Milktree keeps one always-on trait, Photosynthesis, which heals it while it stands in sun. It arrives at half strength on the level 10 riser and matures on the level 68 riser β€” a real difference for most of the card's life, since the strong version only comes very late. As a sustain trait it fires only about 60% of the time, so the healing is frequent but not guaranteed. See Abilities.

Features

African Milktree is non-toxic β€” no contact recoil and no poison rider, so striking it costs an attacker nothing. Its habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native, defensive field gear such as a Cloche or a calcium or magnesium amendment offsets its thin armor; as an invasive, offensive gear pushes its aggression. See statuses.

Stats

At level 40 African Milktree reads 103 HP native and 89 invasive, with ATK of 19 native versus 23 invasive β€” the invasive form hits harder, though neither number is high. DEF is just 2, at the succulent floor, which is almost no armor at all, so it survives on healing rather than toughness. Its tempo is back-loaded: turn 1 runs on its low initiative (14), so it is out-paced off the mark, while every turn after runs on its higher SPD (34), so it grows relentless in a long fight. Retreat costs 16 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and projects an HP overshield onto your active while benched; as an invasive it pays Faustian self-damage to its own bench on each damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes when knocked out. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, African Milktree swells to 190 HP native / 165 invasive and 33 / 42 ATK, but its DEF barely moves to 3 β€” as a soft succulent it buys bulk only in health and almost none in armor, so it stays exposed to any real hitter. Retreat rises to 33 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap, so a mature plant acts last against almost anything younger. Maturing finally brings its Photosynthesis to full strength, which is when the outlasting plan works best.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a succulent, African Milktree sits in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants (perennial herbs, shrubs, broadleaf trees) for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs), which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play African Milktree as an attrition piece: stand it in sun, chip with its attacks, and lean on Photosynthesis and its advanced heal to outlast the enemy β€” it wins by grinding, not by force, since its damage is modest and its armor is negligible. As an invasive its higher ATK speeds the grind; as a native it is a serviceable buffer whose healing keeps it on the board. Note it is fragile against Ruderal racers, which hit it hard. On economy, it is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks Γ—1.25 XP toward faster growth rather than coins. It plays as a slow opener that turns relentless and leans on its bulk as it levels, crossing over around level 14 as a native and 18 as an invasive β€” but it is always stronger at higher levels, so there is no reason to hold it back.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
