Amelanchier alnifolia
An invasive-only European shrub that opens fast and punishes attackers with thorns.
Northline Juneberry is a sturdy Shrub that fights as a fast-opening attacker with a defensive edge: quick off the mark, solid DEF, and thorns that make trading into it costly. It exists only as an invasive card, playing in Europe, so the arena always fields it in its attacker role β there is no native buffer version. It is a decent, aggressive shrub.
Its starter attack, Bramblemaze, unlocks at level 1 and costs 2 Sun, dealing about 34 damage as an invasive β a plain, reliable hit. The free once-per-battle ability, Shrubland Sere, arrives at level 25: Settles the slope: heal 35%, and the foe withers. The advanced attack, Fruit Drop Kick, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (31 invasive) and saps the target, weakening it as it lands. Most of your juneberries sit well below level 40, where only the starter is available. None of its moves carry an initiative rider, so it never seizes a turn. See Moves.
It keeps a single always-on trait: Thorns. It arrives at full strength on the level 10 riser and, from then on, damages any attacker that strikes it in melee β a steady recoil that rewards it for soaking hits and adds up over a fight. See Abilities.
It carries the thorns keyword, so attackers take recoil every time they hit it. It is non-toxic otherwise: no contact poison and no poison rider baked in. Its growth habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As an invasive attacker, offensive field gear sharpens its aggression, and its thorns mean it can also stand in and trade when it needs to.
At level 40 it reads 89 HP with 37 ATK as an invasive β its invasive form is the only one it has, and its ATK is trait-sourced and strong for its tier. DEF is 11, solidly in the shrub band, so it genuinely blunts incoming hits rather than relying on health alone. Its tempo is front-loaded: turn 1 runs on a fast initiative (51) that leads, but from turn 2 on its slower SPD (36) gets out-paced, so it opens quick and then cruises behind. Retreat costs 14 Sun. As an invasive it pays Faustian self-damage to its own bench on each damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes when knocked out. See Stats.
Matured to level 100, it grows to 165 HP and 74 ATK, and its DEF climbs to 22 β as a shrub it hardens into a genuine armored wall on top of its offense, so a mature juneberry both hits and takes hits well. Retreat rises to 27 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to roughly 1% of cap, so it acts last against almost anything young.
As a shrub it sits in the Competitor succession group. It hits Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs) for x1.5 and takes only x0.667 from them; it is weak to Specialist plants (succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes), which strike it for x1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Competitors and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.
Play it as an invasive attacker that opens fast β its high initiative lets it land the first blow in a wild encounter, and its thorns and DEF let it stand and trade when a fight runs long. It is one of the more capable aggressive shrubs here. It is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks x1.25 XP rather than coins. It fights as a fast skirmisher early and leans on its armor as it levels, crossing over around level 30; it is always stronger at higher levels in raw stats, so there is no reason to hold it back.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
