Overview

The green maple is a broadleaf tree (Broadleaf tree) that plays as a self-sustaining native wall. It is native to East Asia and is invasive nowhere in the current arena regions, so it fills the native-only role β€” a bench cushion and a slow, high-HP holder, not an attacker.

Moves

It opens with Raysteal at Lv 1 for 2 Sun: Takes the light by force β€” strike and heal 10%. As a native it deals about 29 and heals itself for a small share of its HP as it hits. Its free once-per-battle ability, Shade Tolerance, unlocks at Lv 25 for no Sun: Waits out the dark: heal 40%, and the foe can't heal. β€” a big self-heal that also denies the foe any healing. Its advanced attack, Out on a Limb, arrives at Lv 40 for 6 Sun and deals about 34: Two swings from the same limb., striking twice. No move carries an initiative rider.

Abilities

It keeps two always-on traits. Tannin Load arrives at Lv 10: any attacker that strikes it is Withered by its oak-like tannins, so trading into it cuts the attacker's output. Heartwood Core stacks on at Lv 68: it adds DEF that scales up with the card's level, so a mature trunk is measurably harder than a young one. Below Lv 68 it has only the Wither-on-contact retaliation. Note this tree is not a Network carrier, so it does not lend a gold Sun bar from the bench β€” it buffers with green HP bars alone.

Features

It carries no special trait keywords, and as a broadleaf tree it is not a climber, so it takes no Moss Pole. Ordinary field gear fits; a Ca/Mg amendment stacks flat DEF onto its already-hard trunk.

Stats

Read at Lv 40, where every move is unlocked, it has a high 140 HP (native +15% cushion included), 23 DEF and a low 15 ATK β€” bulk over offense. On tempo it is slow both ways: opening initiative (26) and sustained SPD (27) are both low and near each other, so it will usually act after a quicker foe on every turn. Retreat costs 19 Sun. Benched, it projects a thin green HP overshield (it is Least-Concern) onto your active. See stats.

At Level 100

Matured, this tree becomes a wall. Its DEF climbs from 23 at Lv 40 to 52 at Lv 100 β€” broadleaf-tree armor by wood density, and Heartwood Core adds more on top as it levels β€” while HP rises to 276 and ATK to 25. Retreat rises to 40 Sun as it roots in, and its already-slow tempo sinks toward its floor. What maturing buys is durability and self-sustain; what it costs is any hope of moving first.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a broadleaf tree it is in the Competitor succession group: strong (Γ—1.5) into Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs) and on the losing side against Specialists (succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes).

Gameplay uses

It plays as a slow, self-healing wall: the small heal on Raysteal, the large one on Shade Tolerance (which also locks the foe out of healing), and Tannin Load's contact Wither let it outlast attackers it could never out-damage. As a native it also feeds an active from the bench with a green overshield. It is not edible, so fertilizer banks Γ—1.25 XP for growth rather than coins. It is a durable support and family-tree collection piece more than a carry. Like most trees its bulk makes it power-favored from a very low level, leaning on HP and DEF over turn order almost its whole life, with the crossover around Lv 9.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
