Overview

Spanish bayonet is a stiff, spiny Succulent that fights as a defensive staller: a quick prick, a strong debuff, and steady self-healing. It is native across Eastern and Western North America and South America and invasive through Africa, Europe, Oceania, and South Asia, so the arena readily fields it either way β€” as a native buffer or as an invasive attacker. It is a durable, self-sustaining support card whose endurance outstrips its modest damage.

Moves

Its starter attack, Parch, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun and lands a light, quick prick for about 29 damage as a native and 32 as an invasive. The free once-per-battle ability, Water Reservoir, arrives at level 25: Opens the whole store: heal 50%, and the foe can't heal. β€” a strong Wither that dries the enemy out and cuts into its offense. The advanced attack, Needle Volley, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (52 native / 58 invasive) and endures as it strikes, mending itself in the process. Most of your Spanish bayonet sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider, so it never seizes a turn. See Moves.

Abilities

Spanish bayonet keeps two always-on healing traits on separate risers. From the level 10 riser it carries Photosynthesis at full strength: it heals in sunny weather, though only about 60% of the time it checks, so it is a strong but unreliable mend. On the level 68 riser it adds Succulence, which regenerates it in any weather on the same roughly 60% chance. A mature plant is a stubborn attritional wall β€” so long as the coin flips fall its way. See Abilities.

Features

Spanish bayonet carries no offensive keyword β€” no thorns, no toxin, no spore chemistry β€” so nothing punishes an attacker for striking it, and it is non-toxic. (Its succulent regeneration is covered above.) Its growth habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native, defensive field gear β€” a Cloche, or a calcium/magnesium amendment for a little extra DEF β€” reinforces its stalling game; as an invasive, offensive gear leans into its Wither pressure.

Stats

At level 40 Spanish bayonet reads 103 HP native and 89 invasive, with ATK of 22 native versus 32 invasive. DEF is just 1, at the soft succulent floor, so it soaks hits with almost no armor and depends on healing and its Wither debuff instead. Its tempo is front-loaded: it opens on a higher initiative (38) and can land the first hit, but its lower SPD (23) means it is out-paced from turn 2 on. Retreat costs 12 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active; as an invasive it pays Faustian self-damage to its own bench each damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes when knocked out. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, Spanish bayonet swells to 190 HP native / 165 invasive and 39 / 63 ATK, but its DEF only reaches 1 β€” like all succulents it becomes a large health pool with almost no armor, so a heavy hitter still punches straight through. Its two heals matter more with that bigger pool to refill. Retreat rises to 22 Sun as it roots in, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap, so its early-initiative edge fades and it acts last against almost anything young.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a succulent, Spanish bayonet sits in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants (perennial herbs, vines, shrubs, broadleaf trees) for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs), which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play Spanish bayonet as a defensive staller and Competitor-killer: lead with it to Wither the enemy active and heal through the exchange, or bench it as a native buffer for the HP cushion and overshield. Its damage is modest and its soft body folds to a heavy hitter, so it is an endurance card rather than a finisher. On economy, it is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks Γ—1.25 XP as a growth boost rather than paying coins. It opens fast but leans on its health pool and healing as it levels, crossing over around level 20 as a native and 21 as an invasive β€” but it is always stronger at higher levels in raw stats, so there is no reason to hold it back.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
