Overview

Caucasian whortleberry is a modest Shrub whose tough leaf blunts every hit and which taunts from level 68. It is native to Europe and has no invasive card, so it serves only as a native buffer. Its numbers are low across the board, making it more a collection piece than a fighter.

Moves

Its starter attack, Snarl, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun, dealing about 27 damage. The free once-per-battle ability, Arrested Succession, arrives at level 25: Stops the forest before it starts β€” the foe stalls and can't heal. The advanced attack, Fruit Drop Kick, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (25 damage) and saps the target. Most of your Caucasian whortleberry sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.

Abilities

Caucasian whortleberry holds two working traits. Sclerophylly (level 10) shaves a flat 3 off each direct hit. Sapromyophily (level 68) draws Seed Rain, forced swaps and spore-drift onto this card instead of an ally. See Abilities.

Features

It is non-toxic, so striking it carries no contact recoil and it lays no poison on the attacker. Its habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native it wants defensive field gear β€” a Cloche, or a calcium/magnesium amendment for a little DEF β€” to firm up its middling armor. See statuses.

Stats

At level 40 Caucasian whortleberry reads 121 HP with ATK of just 19 β€” low, so it chips rather than crushes. DEF is 11, in the firmer shrub band, so it has some armor but is no wall. Its tempo tilts late: turn 1 runs on its low initiative (19) and every turn after on its faster SPD (34), so it is out-paced off the mark but relentless once a fight settles. Retreat costs 13 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and projects an HP overshield onto your active while benched. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, Caucasian whortleberry swells to 233 HP and 34 ATK, with DEF firming to 21 β€” a genuine shrub's worth of armor, though short of a tree's wall. Retreat rises to 26 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap, so a mature whortleberry acts last against almost anything younger.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a shrub, Caucasian whortleberry sits in the Competitor succession group. It hits Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs) for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Specialist plants (succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes), which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Competitors and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play Caucasian whortleberry as a plain native buffer: keep it benched for its HP cushion and overshield, since its low attack and missing trait give it little to do on the front line. It is a weak collection piece, better for rounding out a family tree than for carrying fights. On economy, it is edible with a resolved fruit, so feeding it Phosphorus pays Γ—1.25 coins while any other nutrient banks Γ—1.25 XP toward faster growth. It plays as a slow-opening, faster-cruising skirmisher leaning harder on its bulk as it levels, crossing over around level 11 as a native β€” but it is always stronger at higher levels, so there is no reason to hold it back.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
