Quercus Γ rosacea
A native-only Broadleaf tree card built as a wall: the heaviest armour in its bracket, and tannins that wither anything that strikes it.
Devony Oak is a Broadleaf tree card, native to Europe and listed as invasive nowhere, which makes it native-only. It always plays the buffer role β a +15% health cushion and an overshield bar projected onto your active plant from the bench. There is no attacker version to build toward. See nativity and categories.
The starter attack, Branch Slam, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun and hits for 34. A heavy branch slams down.
The free once-per-battle ability, Shade Tolerance, unlocks at level 25 and costs no Sun. Waits out the dark: heal 40%, and the foe can't heal.
The advanced attack, Heartwood, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun and lands for 31. Draws on the heartwood β strike and heal 20%. Worth noticing that the advanced attack does not out-damage the starter here β the starter is the efficient hit, and the advanced slot buys its effect rather than a bigger number. See moves.
Tannin Load arrives on the first riser at level 10 at full strength. It is a retaliation trait: when this card is struck, the attacker takes Wither, losing attack power for the rest of the fight. It costs no turn and no Sun, and it punishes exactly the opponents that want to grind through a wall.
Heartwood Core stacks on at level 68 and adds armour that scales with the card's level β so unlike a flat bonus, it is worth progressively more the further you take the card. Heartwood only forms in a mature trunk, and the trait behaves that way.
The species record lists no toxicity and no trait keywords, so there is no poison rider here. For field gear, this card already has the best armour in its bracket, so gear that extends its time on the field compounds well. Its growth habit is not vine, epiphyte or hemiepiphyte, so a Moss Pole does not apply.
At level 40 the native side reads 140 HP and 22 ATK. Armour is 30, the standout number on this card β incoming damage is meaningfully blunted rather than taken at face value. Retreat costs 19 Sun, which is expensive, so committing this card to the front is a real decision. Opening tempo is 31 and sustained tempo is 27; note that the sustained figure is the lower of the two, so this card opens faster than it keeps up. See stats.
By level 100 health reaches 276 and attack 39, with armour climbing to 70. This is the clearest example of the tree shape in the game: it climbs to a wall, and because Heartwood Core scales with level, the armour number and the trait reinforce each other rather than one flattening out. Retreat rises to 41 Sun and the inverted tempo has fallen to its floor β the matured card is very slow and very hard to move, which is exactly the trade it is offering.
Broadleaf tree is in the Competitor succession group. It crowds out Ruderal β annual forbs, grasses, aquatics and bulbs β and loses to Specialist: succulents, conifers, ferns and epiphytes. Given how much of this card's value is defensive, the Specialist matchup is the one to avoid. See weaknesses and resistances.
This is one of the better native walls available, and its two traits point the same direction: heavy armour, and a punishment for attacking into it. Park it in front of something you need to protect and let Tannin Load erode whatever keeps hitting it. The low sustained tempo means it will usually act second, which suits a card that wants to absorb rather than race.
The honest limitation is offence. Its attack stat is unremarkable and its advanced attack does not improve on its starter's damage, so it will not close a game on its own β it buys time for something else to. Native-only also means there is no aggressive version to switch to when you need pressure.
It is edible with a fruit economy group, so a phosphorus soil amendment pays it Γ1.25 coins. Acorn-bearing oaks are dependable income cards. See the battle lab.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
