Magnolia denudata
A big, hardy Yulan magnolia that plays purely as a native defensive wall, with a bench-wide burn ability; an edible-leaf coin-earner.
Yulan Magnolia is a broadleaf tree, a Broadleaf tree card built as a large, durable body. It is native to East Asia and invasive nowhere in the current regions, so it plays only as a native defensive buffer β there is no attacker stance for this card. See nativity.
Whomp unlocks at Lv 1 for 2 Sun β The full weight of the tree, all at once. β for 36. The free once-per-battle ability Stand Replacement (Lv 25, no damage) burns the foe and its neighbours: A fire that takes the whole stand β the foe burns, and so do its neighbours. The advanced Out on a Limb (Lv 40, 6 Sun) reads 34: Two swings from the same limb. No initiative rider. As a native-only card, its damage reads on the native line. See Moves.
It keeps two always-on abilities, arriving apart. Buttress Roots arrives at Lv 10 β always-on anchoring that keeps it planted and shove-resistant. Heartwood Core stacks on at Lv 68, a durability trait in the old trunk. Neither is a canopy headline trait, so it is not a Sun-overshield carrier. For most of its climb it holds only Buttress Roots.
No toxin or thorn trait, so no contact recoil. Not a climber, so no Moss Pole. For field gear, as a native wall it wants Calcium/Magnesium to push DEF and defensive support generally.
At Lv 40 it reads 140 HP β a high figure for a card at this level, since it is a long-lived, high-biomass tree β with the native +15% cushion and a bench overshield while benched. DEF is 23, firm and rising toward a tree's wall. ATK is a low 16: this is a defensive body, not a striker. Tempo: initiative 31 (turn 1) and SPD 37 (turn 2 onward) are both modest, a slow-ish mover. Retreat 19 Sun, on the high side because it is deeply rooted. See Stats.
HP reaches 276 and ATK only 28 β the mass grows, the attack stays low. DEF hardens into a real wall at 51 on wood density, which is where this card earns its keep. Retreat rises to 41 Sun and its tempo pips fall to about 1% of cap. Maturing buys a fortress with a weak punch.
Broadleaf tree is in the Competitor group: strong (Γ1.5) into Ruderals β annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs β and weak (Γ0.667) into Specialists β succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes. Poison ignores its DEF, the intended counter to a wall.
Play it as a native anchor: park it on the bench for the overshield, or hold it active as a wall that shrugs off hits while its bench-wide burn ability wears down the other side. Its low ATK means it will not close games quickly, so pair it with a hitter. It is edible with a leaf part, so feeding it Nitrogen (the leaf match) pays Γ1.25 coins; any other fertilizer banks Γ1.25 XP. A durable, collection-worthy defensive card rather than a finisher. Being bulk-heavy it is power-favored from a low level, crossing to power-dominance by about Lv 15 β after which its wall and HP only grow.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
