Kleinia stapeliiformis
A native-only succulent that binds on its opener, heals in sun, and cruises fast but carries essentially no armor.
Pickle plant is a Succulent that opens by binding a target and cruises fast late, mending itself in sun along the way. It is native to Africa and has no invasive card, so the arena only ever fields it as a native buffer β there is no attacker version to build. It is a modest card: very low armor, but a pin on its starter, a self-heal, and good cruising speed give it a small disruptive niche.
Its starter attack, Dryground, unlocks at level 1 and costs 2 Sun, dealing about 26 damage and binding the target so it cannot retreat cleanly. The free once-per-battle ability, Stress Tolerance, arrives at level 25: Built for the dry season: heal 40%. The advanced attack, Prickly Situation, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (29 damage) and mends the plant as it strikes. Most of your pickle plants sit below level 40, where only the starter is open. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.
Pickle plant keeps one always-on trait: photosynthesis. It draws only one eligible trait, so it comes in at half strength on the level 10 riser and matures on the level 68 one. When it works it heals the plant in sun β but it triggers only about 60% of the time, so treat the mend as a streaky bonus, not a guarantee. See Abilities.
Pickle plant carries no special trait keywords β no thorns, no toxin. Non-toxic: no contact recoil, no poison rider. Its growth habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native it wants defensive field gear to firm up its almost-nonexistent armor while it binds and heals.
At level 40 it reads 103 HP, with ATK of 16 (native-only, so there is no invasive variant to compare). DEF is just 1, at the very bottom of the succulent band, so it is essentially unarmored. Its tempo runs slow then relentless: turn 1 uses its initiative (40), every turn after its SPD (45), so it is out-paced off the mark but the faster cruiser in a long fight. Retreat costs 12 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active. See Stats.
Matured to level 100, pickle plant swells to 190 HP but its DEF only reaches 1 β as a succulent it becomes a huge-health, effectively zero-armor body, so any real hitter cuts straight through; it survives on health alone. ATK climbs to 28 and retreat to 22 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to roughly 1% of cap, so a mature plant acts last against almost anything young. Maturing buys health and the full heal, not defense.
As a succulent, pickle plant is in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants for Γ1.5 and takes only Γ0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants, which strike it for Γ1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.
Play pickle plant as a native disruptor: pin a target it wants to trap, mend in sun, and lean on its cruising speed to keep landing hits. It can buffer the bench with its HP cushion and overshield, but its near-zero armor means it is happier applying the bind than tanking. It is inedible, so any nutrient banks Γ1.25 XP. It fights as a fast late cruiser that leans on health as it grows, crossing over around level 32 β always stronger higher up, so keep leveling it.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
