Hypericum hircinum
A self-buffing native shrub that pumps its attack, pins its target, blunts every hit and becomes immune to Burn.
Stinking tutsan is a Shrub that fights as a self-buffing bruiser: it pumps its own attack mid-fight and pins its target, trading on firm shrub armor. It is native to Africa and Europe, and no invasive card exists, so the arena only ever fields it as a native buffer. Its stats and moves carry it, with a hit-blunting leaf early and total Burn immunity from level 68.
Its starter attack, Drupe Drop, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun and deals about 26 damage. The free once-per-battle ability, Frugivore Pact, arrives at level 25: Trades fruit for carriage: +3 ATK, and the foe's whole bench sickens. It is a mid-fight self-buff that sharpens its next blows. The advanced attack, Thorn Wall, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (37 damage) and pins the target in place. Most of your stinking tutsan sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.
Stinking tutsan carries a working trait on each riser. Sclerophylly (level 10) is a flat 3 damage reduction on direct hits. Lignotuber (level 68) gives it a fire-adapted base: Burn cannot be applied, and any attempt heals the plant instead. See Abilities.
Stinking tutsan is non-toxic: no contact recoil, no poison rider, so nothing punishes an attacker for striking it. Its habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native, defensive field gear β a Cloche or a calcium/magnesium amendment β firms up its armor further. See statuses.
At level 40 stinking tutsan reads 103 HP with 23 ATK. DEF is 13, mid-range for the shrub band β firmer than a herb but no wall. Its tempo is split: a low initiative (32) is out-paced turn 1, but a higher SPD (34) grinds relentlessly after. Retreat costs 16 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active. See Stats.
Matured to level 100, stinking tutsan climbs to 190 HP and 40 ATK, and its DEF firms to 28 β a solid shrub wall, though short of a tree's. Retreat rises to 33 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap, so a mature bush acts last against almost anything younger.
As a shrub, stinking tutsan sits in the Competitor succession group. It hits Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs) for Γ1.5 and takes only Γ0.667 from them; it is weak to Specialist plants (succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes), which strike it for Γ1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Competitors and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.
Play stinking tutsan as a native buffer and mid-weight body: buff its attack before it trades, use its pin to hold a target, and bench it to project its overshield. With no trait to swing a fight it is serviceable rather than special. On economy, it is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks Γ1.25 XP toward faster growth rather than coins. It plays as a slow-opening bruiser that leans harder on its bulk as it levels, crossing over around level 20 β but it is always stronger at higher levels, so there is no reason to hold it back.
Leveling trades speed for power. A plantβs tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
