Overview

Butterfly stonecrop is a Succulent that leads fast and mends itself in sun. It is native to East Asia and invasive across Europe and South Asia, so the arena can field it either way β€” as a native buffer or as an invasive attacker. It is a serviceable card: decent opening speed and a self-heal offset by very low armor, so it survives by health and recovery rather than by taking hits well.

Moves

Its starter attack, Deadly Surprise, unlocks at level 1 and costs 2 Sun, dealing about 27 damage as a native and 30 as an invasive β€” a plain hit. The free once-per-battle ability, Edaphic Grip, arrives at level 25: Grips thin soil β€” Bind, and the foe can't heal. The advanced attack, Desiccation Endurance, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (22 native / 25 invasive) and strikes several times in one turn. Most of your stonecrops sit below level 40, where only the starter is open. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.

Abilities

Butterfly stonecrop keeps one always-on trait: photosynthesis. It draws only one eligible trait, so it comes in at half strength on the level 10 riser and matures on the level 68 one. When it works it heals the plant in sun β€” but it triggers only about 60% of the time, so treat the mend as a streaky bonus, not a guarantee. See Abilities.

Features

Butterfly stonecrop carries no special trait keywords β€” no thorns, no toxin. Non-toxic: no contact recoil, no poison rider. Its growth habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native it wants defensive field gear to prop up its armor; as an invasive, offensive gear pushes its multi-hit closer to a real finisher.

Stats

At level 40 it reads 103 HP native / 89 invasive, with ATK of 19 native versus 27 invasive β€” a solid gap (native ATK 19 rising to invasive ATK 26), so the invader hits noticeably harder. DEF is just 2, at the soft floor of the succulent band, so it takes hits almost unarmored. Its tempo leads then fades: turn 1 uses its initiative (46), every turn after its SPD (21), so it opens quickly but is out-paced in a long fight. Retreat costs 16 Sun. As a native it gains a +15% HP cushion and a benched HP overshield for your active; as an invasive it pays Faustian self-damage to its own bench on each damaging attack and concedes 2 prizes when knocked out. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, butterfly stonecrop swells to 190 HP native / 165 invasive and 34 / 52 ATK, but its DEF only reaches 3 β€” as a succulent it becomes a huge-health, near-zero-armor body, so any real hitter still cuts deep. Retreat rises to 33 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to roughly 1% of cap, so a mature plant acts last against almost anything young. Maturing buys the full-strength heal and a lot of health, not armor.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a succulent, butterfly stonecrop is in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants, which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play butterfly stonecrop as a fast opener that can trade early damage and mend between blows. As a native it also buffers the bench with its HP cushion and overshield; as an invasive its stronger ATK and multi-hit make it a real early aggressor, though its thin armor means it wants to win quickly. It is inedible, so any nutrient banks Γ—1.25 XP. It fights as a quick skirmisher that leans on health as it grows, crossing over around level 24 β€” always stronger higher up, so keep leveling it.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
