Overview

The Majorcan hellebore is a Perennial herb that plays as a fast-opening, low-armor striker. In the current arena regions it is neither native nor invasive anywhere, so it plays on the neutral base line: no native HP cushion and no invasive attacking edge, just its own kit and stats. See nativity for how those roles would change the card where it holds them.

Moves

Its starter attack, Crown Split, is available from Lv 1 for 2 Sun (Splits at the crown and strikes from both.), dealing 42 at its native reading and 46 at its invasive reading. The free once-per-battle ability, Chronosequence, unlocks at Lv 25: Time on its side: +3 ATK and speed, kept. It deals no damage and costs no Sun, and because the buff is kept it is worth using early. The advanced attack, Tonic, unlocks at Lv 40 for 6 Sun (Strikes and mends β€” heal 15%.), a hit that also mends, reading 34 / 36. No move carries an initiative rider.

Abilities

It keeps two always-on traits that arrive apart. Basal Rosette comes in at Lv 10, a low, defensive growth form that works from early on. Resprout stacks on at Lv 68: it lets the plant survive one otherwise-lethal hit at 25% HP, but it is a chance-based save that triggers only about 60% of the time β€” treat it as a coin-flip-plus reprieve, not a guarantee. For most of the card's life it has only the rosette.

Features

The Majorcan hellebore carries no special trait keywords, and as a perennial herb it is not a climber, so it takes no Moss Pole. For field gear, its paper-thin DEF means it gains a lot proportionally from a calcium/magnesium amendment, and healing or warding gear helps it survive its own fragility.

Stats

At Lv 40 its stat lines read 103 / 89 HP and 22 / 29 ATK across the two nativity readings, though in the arena it plays neutral. DEF is only 4, soft as expected for a perennial herb, so incoming hits land near full through the ATK-over-(ATK-plus-DEF) curve. Its strength is tempo: it opens at initiative 48, high enough to often move first on turn 1, then eases to SPD 34 for turn 2 onward β€” a quick starter that cruises a touch slower. Retreat is a cheap 16 Sun. It can still hold an overshield if you bench natives behind it, but with no native or invasive role of its own it neither cushions the bench nor pays Faustian self-damage.

At Level 100

By Lv 100 its HP swells to 190 / 165 and ATK to 40 / 56, but DEF barely leaves its band, reaching only 8 β€” a soft-bodied herb stays soft no matter how large it gets. Retreat edges up to 33 Sun, and its once-brisk tempo has fallen near its floor. Maturing buys biomass and a bigger swing; it never buys armor.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a perennial herb it is in the Competitor succession group. It hits Ruderal plants (annual-forb, grass, aquatic, bulb) for Γ—1.5 and resists them at Γ—0.667, but it loses to Specialists (succulent, conifer, fern, epiphyte).

Gameplay uses

Play the Majorcan hellebore as a fast, fragile opener: use its high initiative to land the first hit, buff with Chronosequence, and lean on the late Resprout save and the heal on Tonic to stretch its short life. It is squishy and wants bench backup rather than being asked to tank. It is not edible, so fertilizer banks Γ—1.25 XP toward leveling rather than coins, which makes it mostly a collection piece and a light skirmisher rather than a battle centerpiece. It fights as a fast skirmisher until about Lv 34, after which its growing HP and attack take over the speed edge.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
