Overview

Verschaffelt agave is a Succulent that fights as a native buffer built on regeneration: a quick first turn and a slow steady mend, wrapped around a low attack. It is native to Eastern and Western North America and has no invasive form, so it only ever plays the buffer role β€” there is no attacker version to field. Its damage is low; it earns its place by healing and sticking around.

Moves

Its starter attack, Prick, unlocks at level 1 for 2 Sun, dealing about 27 damage β€” a plain hit with no rider. The free once-per-battle ability, Succulent Stalemate, arrives at level 25: Outlasts anything β€” the foe is held fast and can't heal. It is a mid-fight mend. The advanced attack, Drought Stand, unlocks at level 40 for 6 Sun (29 damage) and mends the plant as it strikes. Most of your agave sit below level 40, where only the starter is unlocked. None of its moves carry an initiative rider. See Moves.

Abilities

Verschaffelt agave keeps two always-on traits. Photosynthesis arrives on the level 10 riser and heals it in sun, but it fires only about 60% of the time, so it is a trickle rather than a steady mend. Succulence arrives on the level 68 riser and lets it regenerate in any weather β€” again about 60% of the time β€” extending that self-heal beyond sunny turns. Together they make it a slow but persistent regenerator once matured. See Abilities.

Features

Verschaffelt agave is non-toxic: it carries no contact recoil and no poison rider on being struck, so nothing punishes an attacker for trading with it. Its habit is terrestrial, so it is not eligible for a Moss Pole. As a native it wants defensive field gear β€” a Cloche, or a calcium/magnesium amendment for a little DEF β€” because it has essentially no armor of its own. See statuses.

Stats

At level 40 it reads 103 HP with ATK of 17 β€” a low number, so its damage never amounts to much. DEF is just 1, at the soft succulent floor, effectively no armor at all, so it relies entirely on its regeneration to stay up. Its tempo is front-loaded: turn 1 runs fast on its initiative (32), but every turn after falls back to its slower SPD (23), so it leads the opening exchange and is out-paced once a fight drags on. Retreat costs 12 Sun. As a native it gains an HP cushion and, while benched, projects an HP overshield onto your active. See Stats.

At Level 100

Matured to level 100, it swells to 190 HP and 30 ATK, but its DEF barely moves to 1 β€” as a succulent it buys bulk in health and none at all in armor, so it stays exposed to any real hitter and survives only by healing. Retreat rises to 22 Sun, and its tempo has sunk to about 1% of cap, so a mature plant acts last against almost anything younger.

Weaknesses & Resistances

As a succulent, it sits in the Specialist succession group. It hits Competitor plants (perennial herbs, shrubs, trees, vines) for Γ—1.5 and takes only Γ—0.667 from them; it is weak to Ruderal plants (annual forbs, grasses, aquatics, bulbs), which strike it for Γ—1.5 while resisting its blows. Against other Specialists (succulents, conifers, ferns, epiphytes) and the off-wheel Weird group the matchup is neutral. See Weaknesses & Resistances.

Gameplay uses

Play it as a native buffer that outlasts rather than out-hits: open fast, regenerate through the fight, and use its Γ—1.5 edge against Competitor plants to punch above its low attack. It is a weak card overall β€” no armor, low damage, and no attacker form β€” but its succession advantage and steady healing give it a niche against the perennial herbs, shrubs, trees, and vines it is strong into. On economy, it is inedible, so any nutrient you feed it banks Γ—1.25 XP toward faster growth rather than coins. It plays as a quick opener leaning harder on its bulk and regeneration as it levels, crossing over around level 18 β€” but it is always stronger at higher levels, so there is no reason to hold it back.

Total power

Leveling trades speed for power. A plant’s tempo (SPD + INI, the turn-order edge) fades as it grows, while its power (HP + ATK + DEF, net of the rising Sun cost to retreat) climbs. The crossover is the level where power overtakes tempo: below it the plant is a fast skirmisher, above it a heavyweight. Shown for each stance this plant can actually hold β€” native adds a HP cushion, invasive an attack edge, neutral neither β€” with the card at its crossover and fully grown at LvΒ 100.
