Every playable plant — the 209-species catalog plus all 2,313 species players have scanned into the game — is built at level 100 with neutral genetics and fought through the real battle engine. Same Sun economy, same succession wheel, same moves, abilities and statuses you play with.
Each plant is scored two ways, because a lot of the trait roster only does anything with a bench behind it:
Every pairing is played from both sides and in both sunny and overcast weather, then win rates are averaged inside each succession group before being averaged across all four — so a plant can't rank highly just by farming whichever group happens to be most common. The arena is Eastern North America, which is what decides who reads native, invasive, or absent.
Neutral genetics means this ranks species, not individual plants: your own specimen's IVs and EVs move HP and ATK by up to about a fifth in either direction, which is more than enough to reorder anything separated by less than a point or two here.
The strongest position in the game right now is not a stat line, it is a group. Carrion-aroids hold first, third and fifth place overall, and they do it because Weird sits outside the succession wheel: it neither deals the 1.5x a favourable matchup grants nor takes it. Philodendron Green Congo's group record — 94.5 against Ruderals, 82.8 against Competitors, 92.6 against Specialists, 97.2 against Weird — has no soft edge anywhere in it, while every plant in a wheel category carries one bad matchup by construction. Add thermogenesis, which applies a Burn to the opposing active at every checkup for no turn and no Sun, and you get a category whose entire top three reads absent here and still beats the field with no home-field help at all.
Underneath that, the win condition at the cap is damage over time. The whole-database attribution is blunt about it: the 1,957 species whose attacks carry no damage-over-time rider average 14.2%, while the 227 carrying two stacks average 31.1% and the 254 carrying three average 31.5%. Poison and Burn land straight on HP, ignore DEF completely, and are scaled 1.5x by statusScale at level 100. That is why DEF predicts almost nothing on this page — Pink Lady's Slipper has the best HP, the best ATK and the best DEF in its category and still finishes second in it.
The wheel is doing more work than the stat law. Indian Blanket takes 100.0 off Specialists and 18.4 off Competitors, and the two Colonize forbs behind it repeat that split almost exactly. Colonize is the mechanism: a starter that costs no Sun, ignores DEF and the overshield, escalates by half again each time it lands up to three ramps, and then takes the wheel multiplier on top of all that. If you are levelling a Ruderal, read its group record first — that number is the difference between a matchup it cannot lose and one it cannot win.
Little moved this week. Eastern Red Cedar (83.0) edged European Yew (82.7) for the conifer lead; Herb Paris and Lucky clover are tied at 43.2 in the bulbs; Golden Pothos (31.4) and Pink Lady's Slipper (31.3) traded places among the epiphytes. Those are ties, not changes. The one real movement is in the broadleaf trees, where Black Locust left the top three altogether, Cedar elm took first and Dwarf chinkapin oak arrived at third. The scanned pool keeps growing — 2,313 species now, against 2,275 on the 30 August edition — and because every finalist's score is an average over the finals field, a change in who reaches the finals nudges everyone's number.
One newly scanned plant broke into a top three this week.

Colonize is the whole plant. It costs no Sun, ignores DEF and the overshield entirely, and escalates by half again each time it lands up to three ramps — and the succession wheel then multiplies it again on the way in. Its ATK of 38 ranks #176 of 207 in this category and never has to matter, because the move doing the scoring does not read ATK at all. Read the group line before you commit to it: 100.0 against Specialists against 18.4 into Competitors is not one plant, it is two, and which one you get is settled before the first turn.

The same Colonize plan with a different second half. Somnolent Smell adds a turn of Dormant alongside 2 Poison, which buys tempo rather than damage, and at level 100 that Poison ticks 1.5x, past DEF, carrying a fraction of the target's own maximum HP. It has 8 more ATK than the plant above it and still finishes behind — the clearest evidence in this category that ATK is not what is being scored here. The 14.1 into Competitors is the bill.

The third Colonize forb in a row, and the repetition is the finding: this category's top three is one starter drawn three times. Floormat Chokeout is where it diverges, withering 3 and spreading 35% of its damage across the enemy's whole side, but Colonize is what is scoring. Its 99.2 against Specialists against 14.1 into Competitors is the same brutal split as its neighbours, and rapid-cycling, which adds 1 SPD per checkup to a cap of 5, is the least load-bearing thing on the entry.

It is the only plant on this page holding a wheel category with no group record worse than 46.1, and it manages that by never leaning on one matchup. Steady Growth is a full-power starter that also applies 3 Poison for no Sun, so its direct damage and its damage-over-time come out of the same free action; Winterkill then stacks blight 3, denying the target all healing for three checkups, on top of wither 3. Its DEF of 8 is #1 in a 687-species category, which tells you how little DEF is worth here — the deadly toxicity that floors a Poison rider onto its attack is doing far more.

The only new scan to reach a top three this week, and it arrives on sustain rather than damage. Seral Persistence heals 60% of its maximum HP and applies blight 2 in the same free action, so it outlasts the middle of a 687-species category while denying the other side its own regeneration, and Bitter Sap keeps 2 Poison running underneath for nothing. Its ATK ranks #291 and its DEF #346 of 687, so no part of the stat line explains the placing — the free heal-plus-blight does. The 32.0 into Specialists is what it costs to be a Competitor on the wheel.

It reads absent here, so it is scoring with no home-field help at all: no native HP bonus, no invasive breadth term. Allelochemical Priming is a pure-control ability that applies 4 Poison and deals no damage — exactly the shape of effect the arena bot could not see before it was taught to score effects — and its bot and smart scores of 59.7 and 60.1 show the two policies now agree on it. The drop from a 66.5 duel to a 53.3 squad is the warning: this is a plant for one-on-one, and its bench does not carry it.

A 52.3 in a duel against a 91.6 in a squad of three. That is spore-drift at L68, a bench trait with nothing to do in a duel — this plant is ordinary one-on-one and close to unbeatable once it has a bench, so level it only if you intend to field it in threes. Pyric Herbivory adds 3 Burn for no Sun, and Burn runs on the same curve and the same cap as Poison, so it is a second damage-over-time channel that costs no turn.

A more extreme version of the same shape: 36.1 in a duel against 92.0 in a squad. Pioneer Sward heals 30% and spreads wither 2 across the entire enemy side for no Sun, an effect that does almost nothing against a lone opponent and compounds against three. Its INI of 0.22 means it moves late in most exchanges, which is survivable behind a bench and fatal without one. Do not judge this plant by a duel.

New to this top three, and it inverts both plants above it: 71.9 in a duel against 52.9 in a squad. Fire Climax is why — burn 5 with a wildfire rider is a single concentrated damage-over-time on one target rather than an effect that needs a crowd, and Silica Slice returns 30% of its damage as lifesteal. A clean 100.0 against Competitors — Specialist beats Competitor on the wheel, and this is what that edge looks like behind a plant that can also survive. Water Reservoir heals half its maximum HP and applies blight 3 in one free action, so it outlasts what it is already resisting, and its ATK of 28 (#91 of 167) is nearly irrelevant to the result. The 39.5 into Ruderals is the reciprocal, and Colonize is the reason: a starter that ignores DEF and the overshield does not care that this is a 233 HP cactus.

The same cactus chassis with more ATK and a worse ability, and it finishes behind. Night Stomata heals 30% where the plant above it heals 50%, and in a category that wins by outlasting Competitors that is the whole difference. Prickly Situation still lands 3 Poison, which at level 100 ticks 1.5x and carries a fraction of the victim's maximum HP, so it punishes precisely the bulky Competitors the wheel already hands it — 97.9 into Competitors against 38.9 into Ruderals.

The cost is tempo: SPD 0.34 and a 41 Sun retreat make it the slowest plant in this top three, and it cannot leave a bad matchup cheaply. Poison Ivy holds the best DEF in the pool at 15 and an ATK of 50 at #32 of 138, and still scores 34.4 — because Smother Climax, its ability, deals no damage at all and only spreads wither and bind, and the wheel then hands it 14.1 into Specialists. Twist is a genuinely strong starter, landing wither 4 and 2 Poison for no Sun; the plant built around it is not. Treat the vine pool as weak rather than as somewhere to find a winner.

Both of its attacks are spread moves that pay out only against a full bench, so a 34.0 squad against an 8.6 duel is the kit working exactly as authored while the duel measures nothing it can do. Second in its category and second in the entire game, and it is the strongest plant on this page that reads absent — no native HP bonus, no invasive breadth term, and still #2 of 2,522. Whomp is one of the rare authored-power starters, overriding the usual damage scaling and carrying 3 Poison, and the deadly toxicity is what floors that Poison rider onto the attack in the first place. Its bot and smart scores of 81.4 and 84.0 are the widest policy gap in this top three, which means some of its strength sits in ability timing that the shipped arena bot does not exploit as well as a player would.

Its HP of 165 is #79 of 88 — very nearly the frailest conifer in the game — and it still scores 75.7, which makes it the clearest case on this page of a kit beating a stat line. DEF 53 is #2 in the category, Deathshadow applies blight 2 and 2 Poison off a free starter, and Forest Fire adds burn 3, so it denies the other side its healing while running two damage-over-time channels of its own. Note what that DEF does not buy: Poison and Burn land straight on HP and ignore DEF completely, so the armour protects it from direct hits and from nothing else.

A five-species category, and the score should be read with that in mind. The flytrap is the only plant here with both sustain and damage in one kit: Bog Establishment heals 30% and withers 4 for no Sun, and Fatal Attraction returns 30% of its damage as lifesteal. It carries three traits rather than the usual two because carnivory arrives at L1 alongside the normal pair, and both of the others work without spending a turn — digestive-enzymes poisons whatever strikes it, peat-acidification chips the opposing active every checkup. Its 24.2 into Ruderals is the soft spot.

Trap Priming is pure control — bind 2 and 3 Poison, no damage — and Digestive Distress adds 4 more Poison, so this is a stacking damage-over-time plant with no burst anywhere in the kit. That works better alone than in company: 36.5 in a duel against 26.6 in a squad, because lure at L68 pulls attacks onto it and a bench only multiplies what that costs. It reads absent here and sits at 31.6 in a five-species pool — read that as a thin category rather than a strong plant.

Digestive Overdrive applies 8 Poison, the largest single application on this page and the engine's hard cap for a damage-over-time stack, and the plant still finishes at 24.2. That is the most useful thing this category has to teach. The 16.0 squad score against a 32.4 duel says the rest of the kit cannot keep it alive once there are three targets, and Bladder Blast at dmg 0.5 with multi 2 has nowhere near the burst to close a fight. Stacking Poison high is not the same as winning with it.

Colonize again, this time on an aquatic Ruderal, and the 93.8 against Specialists follows it exactly as it does in the forbs. Eutrophic Pulse spreads 2 Poison across the entire enemy side for no Sun, which is why a 74.7 squad score towers over a 48.4 duel — against a lone opponent that ability does a third of its job. Carrion-aroids are Weird, which sits outside the succession wheel entirely, so it never takes the 1.5x that every Ruderal, Competitor and Specialist eats from the group above it, and never gives one away either. Thermogenesis then applies a Burn to the opposing active at every checkup for no turn and no Sun, while Titan Bloom heals 70% of its maximum HP and grants rampant 5, a kept ATK buff. Seed Rain Deluge is the one genuinely unusual effect in this category: flat, non-scaling damage to a random plant on the other side that bypasses the overshield, plus a flat self-heal, in an ability costing no Sun. Because those numbers are flat rather than scaled off ATK or maximum HP, the ability is worth proportionally less at the level cap than anywhere else in the game, which is part of why this plant sits at 34.3 here. A 7.8 against Ruderals against a 45.8 against Weird is the widest spread in this top three, and the low end is where it will spend most of its time. Its whole kit is lifesteal — Sap Tap, Haustorium Hostage, and viscotoxin-load, which poisons whatever strikes it — and lifesteal only returns a fraction of damage this plant is not dealing at dmg 0.6 to 0.8. It reads absent here as well, which removes the one bonus that might have covered some of the gap.
Three things worth an owner's eye.
First, the Weird exemption is now the best deal in the game. Weird neither takes nor deals the wheel multiplier, so a carrion-aroid plays every matchup at even odds while every other plant on this page has a group it loses to by construction. That exemption was meant to keep the off-axis oddballs off a competitive axis they do not play on; at the level cap it reads as a straightforward advantage, and it puts three aroids in the overall top five.
Second, an anomaly in the attribution table: species whose attacks carry four or more damage-over-time stacks average 20.2% (n=70), well below the 31.5% of those carrying three (n=254) and the 31.1% of those carrying two (n=227). More Poison is scoring worse than less. The clearest single case is New Caledonia Pitcher Plant, whose Digestive Overdrive applies 8 stacks — the engine's cap — and which still finishes at 24.2. Worth checking whether the high-stack kits are paying for those stacks somewhere else in their draw.
Third, the categories that cannot compete are not close. Mycotroph holds exactly one species in the entire database, so its winner is a default rather than a result. Epiphyte tops out at 31.4 and vine at 34.4, and the vine case is the more informative of the two: Poison Ivy holds the best DEF of all 138 vines and still cannot break 35, because the ability in its kit deals no damage at all. In both pools the authored kit, rather than the species available, looks like the binding constraint.
